Where to buy

Bellagio Jewellers II

Oshawa Centre · 419 King St W, Oshawa ON L1J 2K5

Your one stop. An authorized dealer for Citizen, Seiko and Bulova, and the source for six of the nine watches here. Their stock counts are thin — most of these show only 1 left — so phone before you drive over. Online orders picked up in store usually take 2–4 days, so buying at the counter is faster.

  • Seiko
  • Bulova
  • Movado
  • G-Shock
  • Hugo Boss

Citizen Canada — online

Ships to Oshawa · direct from the brand

Running 25% off, which is how the Nighthawk lands at $562.50 instead of $750. Worth checking even if you buy locally — it tells you what a fair price looks like at the counter.

Peoples Jewellers

Oshawa Centre, Ste 4117 · Mon–Sat 10–9, Sun 11–6

Two minutes' walk from Bellagio in the same mall. Mainstream Citizen and Bulova selection — thinner and less enthusiast-leaning, but a useful second look while you're there.

WATCH IT! — Vaughan Mills

1 Bass Pro Mills Dr · Mon–Sat 10–9, Sun 11–7

The road-trip option, about an hour west. A proper watch showroom rather than a jewellery counter, so it's the place to try on a dozen at once if you'd rather browse than decide from a list.

Worth knowing before you walk in

  • Sapphire is the tell. At this price the thing that separates a $600 watch from a $300 one is usually the crystal. Sapphire won't scuff; mineral will, eventually. The Tsuyosa, the PRX and the Prospex have sapphire — the Nighthawk and the Promasters don't.
  • He probably has Eco-Drives already. If the goal is a watch that feels new rather than another of the same, an automatic — the Tsuyosa or the Seiko 5 — is the bigger change. If the goal is one he'll grab without thinking, Eco-Drive never needs winding or a battery.
  • Check the case size against what he wears. There's a real gap here: 37 mm on the Tsuyosa is a classic, modest size; 44 mm on the Promaster Dive is a slab. Look at what's already on his wrist before you choose.
  • Get the bracelet sized at the counter. An authorized dealer will do it free while you wait. That's the practical argument for buying at Bellagio over buying online, and it means the watch fits the moment he opens it.
  • Warranties differ. Citizen is 5 years, Seiko is 3 years — both only through an authorized dealer, which Bellagio is.
